The City Council has hired a new administrator to replace former City Administrator Bruce Spragg.

The council voted unanimously to hire Todd Argow, 38, who is leaving his position as public services director for the city of Saratoga, a small town in Northern California. He will begin his new job in South Gate on Feb. 18. Argow has worked as an assistant to the city manager in Oceanside.

Interim City Administrator William Cornett will continue running South Gate until Argow arrives.

Argow was given a two-year contract at an annual salary of $87,000. Seven applicants were interviewed for the position.

The council fired Spragg in August, but rescinded the action after he submitted his resignation. He was paid $63,500 in severance.
