PLATFORM : Parents in Combat
If women want to serve in the United States armed services, that’s their choice. But I have a problem when a husband and wife both go off to war and are forced to leave little children behind, abandoned or left without parental nurturing. That is wrong. And it is cruel for that condition to continue uncorrected.
People presently serving in the armed forces volunteered to go into a peacetime service. Now that conditions have changed and they suddenly find themselves in a wartime service, they should have some options. One of the parents should be allowed to serve at home.
The same should be for single heads of households with children, or couples who have to take care of elderly parents.
The people in this country, and those serving in the military and their families, should make an effort to get that policy enacted by the armed services.
