BIKE SHOW : Everything Needed to Keep on a Roll
This weekend the 8th annual Kashi Bicycling and Outdoor Adventure Festival comes to Del Mar Fairgrounds. The festival, touted as the largest consumer bike show in the country, will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
More than 120 booths by adventure travel outfitters, manufacturers, distributors and retailers of bicycling and health-related products will be featured. Seminars, videos and slide shows will be presented.
A free buffet of Kashi foods also will be featured, including a new item, Kashi Pizza.
A 35-foot indoor climbing wall, constructed by Aquarius Adventures Mountain Guides, will test the skills of an estimated 250 top climbers from around the United States, who are expected to compete in a climbing championship. Festival-goers also will be given a chance to try their scaling techniques.
Vintage bicycles from the late 1800s through the 1950s will display the evolution of the modern bicycle. The Suunto USA Orienteering Rally will teach the use of a map and compass, and interested visitors can test their new skills on a special orienteering course at the festival.
Two bicycle rides will be held Sunday--a 40-mile ride beginning at 7 a.m. and a 20-mile ride beginning at 8 a.m. Cyclists will follow a route through Rancho Santa Fe and its rural outskirts.
