In another Big West Conference basketball game:
UC Irvine 70, San Jose State 64--Jenny Lee scored 20 points and Kathy Lizarraga added 16 for the visiting Anteaters (5-17, 3-10). Pam Pember scored 25 for San Jose (2-20, 0-14).
In nonconference baseball:
Cal State Fullerton 5, Arizona 4--Mike Berry’s ninth-inning home run gave the Titans their second consecutive victory over Arizona at Amerige Park.
The Titans scored three runs--one earned--in the first, then Arizona scored four in the second.
In the sixth, Frank Charles reached on an error, went to second on a wild pitch, to third on a groundout and scored on Trevor Rush’s single to tie the score.
UC Irvine 8, UC Riverside 5--Bryant Winslow hit two bases-empty home runs and the visiting Anteaters had 15 hits in their third consecutive victory. Winslow’s first home run in the fifth gave Irvine a 3-2 lead it never relinquished. Winslow and Matt Filson hit home runs in the seventh, an inning in which the Anteaters (4-4) scored three runs.
In nonconference softball:
Southern California College 3-3, Loyola Marymount 2-0--Ixchelle Kistler drove in the tying run with a double and Stephanie Wills doubled in Kistler in the fifth inning of the first game and SCC (2-0) went on to sweep the double-header at Loyola Marymount.
In the University of Washington women’s tennis invitational:
UC Irvine 6, Colorado 3--Irvine’s Stacey Cadigan defeated Kelly Hansen, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4, in No. 2 singles and the Anteaters won four of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches. The Anteaters (3-2) are the only team that hasn’t lost in the round-robin tournament.
