SAN CLEMENTE : Officer Suspended on Abuse Complaint
A police officer has been suspended from his duties while authorities investigate a 21-year-old woman’s complaint that the patrolman sexually abused her while off-duty, police said.
The unidentified woman told police that she was the victim of a “date rape” by the officer, a three-year member of the police force, said San Clemente Police Sgt. Richard E. Downing.
“The officer has been relieved of duty and placed on administration leave pending the outcome of an investigation,” Downing said.
The Orange County district attorney’s office and San Clemente police detectives are conducting the investigation, Downing said. He declined to identify the patrolman because no charges have been brought against him.
“The matter is still under the investigation to determine the facts of this allegation and any other misconduct by the officer,” Downing said.
