THE GULF WAR: The Diplomatic Front : In Japan
Japanese TOURISTS, who traveled abroad in record numbers last year, are CANCELING TRIPS to Europe and the United States out of fear of the Gulf War, Japan’s largest travel agency reported. Japan Travel Bureau said about 87,000 people--20% of its total reservations--canceled plans for overseas tours between January and March. In 1990, a record 10 million Japanese traveled abroad. U.S. and Europe-bound tours had the highest cancellation rates, ranging from 30% to 40%. Destinations in China and the South Pacific, however, have not been affected.
