NATION : Man, 80, Admits Killing Lover
SAN ANTONIO — An 80-year-old man who pleaded guilty to killing his 70-year-old girlfriend told police he beat her to death because she refused to put on her clothes.
Rogerio Herrera pleaded guilty to killing Amelia Perales, his girlfriend of nine years, and asked state District Judge Sid Harle to sentence him to probation.
Herrera told police Perales walked naked into the kitchen of their home Jan. 11, 1989. He said he told her to put clothes on, but she said it was too hot, became angry and told him to leave.
Herrera said he got a piece of iron from the back porch, walked back into the kitchen and hit Perales on the left side of the head, killing her instantly.
He told police that after the killing he went out to run errands and have lunch, then took Perales’ body in his truck to a brushy area and dumped the body.
