SOUTHERN SECTION BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP
In Division II-AA:
San Clemente 73, Santiago 43--Bill Hagedorn scored 13 points and Morgan Bannister added nine in the first half as host San Clemente opened a 41-12 lead. Hagedorn finished with 19 and Bannister 11. Melvin Johnson added 15 and Eddie Morgan, a 6-foot-7 forward, had 15 rebounds and six points.
In Division III-AA:
Los Amigos 81, Magnolia 70--Chris Blythe scored 18 points for Los Amigos (5-19), which outscored Magnolia 24-14 in the second quarter.
In Division III-A:
San Marino 66, Costa Mesa 57--Jeff Pickens scored 22 points for Costa Mesa (3-21).
In Division IV-AA:
Whittier Christian 97, San Jacinto 48--Ruben Oronoz scored 35 points, making 15 of 16 shots from the field, and had 11 rebounds for host Whittier Christian (14-11).
In Division IV-A:
Serra 83, Orange Lutheran 77--Serra took the lead for good after a basket by Arthur Tate with 3:14 left at Orange Lutheran. Tate had 24 points and Dan Carpenter and Michael Body 17 each for Serra (5-16). Brian Bedord had 27 points for Orange Lutheran (13-12).
Laguna Beach 87, Cantwell 46--Josh Borella had 25 points for host Laguna Beach (17-9), which led, 50-26, at the half and removed its starters by the end of the third quarter. Laguna Beach will play Friday at Bishop in the first round.
In Division V-AA:
Calvary Chapel 58, Mesrobian 50--Brian Arrowwood scored 28 points as Calvary Chapel (8-13) overcame the loss of two players to injury. John O’Brien fell and left with a headache in the first half and Jacob Guild left with an ankle injury in second half.
Capistrano Valley Christian 72, Linfield 60--Nathan Owens had 30 points and 11 rebounds for host Capistrano Valley Christian (4-20).
Bel Air Prep 81, St. Michael’s Prep 65--Jon Grobler and Jocques Wright each had 27 points for host St. Michael’s (6-15). Grobler had six three-point shots. Lee Olitt and Westley Allen each had 20 for Bel Air Prep (15-9).
