Women Honor KCAL: American Women in Radio and Television has honored KCAL Channel 9 as one of the five winners in the “best news story, series or feature category” at the organization’s 16th annual national commendation awards. The four-part Channel 9 series “Major Mom,” which examined the personal ordeals faced by women called to duty in the Persian Gulf, was honored alongside network news programs “Today,” “20/20” and “Face to Face With Connie Chung” (two nominations). The awards acknowledge the effective portrayal of women’s changing roles in society.
