Impressive Debut for ‘Die Hard 2’
Living up to its advance billing as the winter’s best rental title, “Die Hard 2” entered the Billboard chart at No. 2--one of the most impressive debuts in years. Starring Bruce Willis as a cop trying to foil a terrorist plot in Washington, the movie grossed more than $113.5 million. Look for it to climb to the top next week and probably reign until “Ghost’ hits the chart at the end of March. The rise of “Young Guns II” to the top this week is a surprise. It didn’t seem to have enough mass appeal to reach No. 1. “Navy SEALS” entered the chart at No. 10 and could crack the Top Five. Featuring Charlie Sheen, this movie about an elite Navy unit on a rescue mission in the Middle East has timeliness on its side.
* “Problem Child” entered the chart at No. 12 and could easily make the Top Five. The film, starring John Ritter, grossed more than $50 million and is a mass-appeal comedy about the trials of adoption.
