New Post for Ex-Chairman of UCI Drama
BEVERLY HILLS — Robert Cohen, who resigned last week as chairman of the UC Irvine drama department, has been named co-artistic director of Theatre Forty, a 26-year-old “membership company” here.
Theatre Forty consists of 219 actors who pay dues to participate. The troupe performs a range of works, from Shakespeare to contemporary original plays, in a 99-seat theater at Beverly Hills High School.
Cohen, who chaired the UC Irvine drama department for more than 21 years, will hold the new post with Keith Fowler, a UCI drama professor. On March 1, Cohen and Fowler will begin to organize Theatre Forty’s 1991-92 subscription season. They will assume full responsibilities when the current season concludes June 30.
