Rosemead : Voluntary Recycling Plan
Rosemead may be among the last cities in the San Gabriel Valley not to have a recycling program, and the mayor wants to change that.
The City Council on Tuesday approved a three-month pilot recycling program involving about 500 households on a voluntary basis.
Within two months, residents in the northeast corner of the city, bounded by Mission Drive on the south and Rosemead Boulevard on the west, will be asked to place recyclable materials--such as glass, oil and metal--in separate trash containers, Mayor Dennis McDonald said.
Modern Service, the city’s sanitation contractor, has agreed to collect the recyclables during the pilot program without increasing rates.
McDonald, who proposed the measure, said it “will give us something about the attitude of the residents toward recycling.”
