Alhambra : Police to Get New Pistols
Alhambra police will soon be carrying new pistols, which city officials say are needed to help keep pace with the deadlier weapons being carried by criminals.
The City Council on Monday asked for bids on providing 9-millimeter semiautomatic pistols to replace the .38-caliber revolvers officers use now. The new weapons carry 15 bullets compared to six for the revolvers, are more easily reloaded and have better night sights, a city report said.
The city plans to buy 120 pistols to equip its officers and reservists. The semiautomatics probably will cost between $350 and $450 apiece, but the city hopes to receive a trade-in allowance on its old guns.
