Waste Reduction Will Be Discussed
A series of public forums is under way this month throughout the Southeast area to discuss strategies for waste reduction and recycling.
A state law adopted last year requires every city in California to develop a plan for cutting the amount of waste it produces by 25% by 1995 and 50% by the year 2000. The waste reduction mandate applies to businesses and residences.
The forums, which begin at 7 p.m., are designed to provide residents and business owners with an opportunity to tell government officials how they think cities can meet the waste reduction goals. Waste recycling consultants and officials from various cities will conduct the forums.
Remaining forums are scheduled for Feb. 20 at Lynwood City Hall, 11330 Bullis Road; Feb. 21 at Smith Park, southeast corner of Rosemead Boulevard and Mines Avenue, Pico Rivera; and Feb. 26 at the Commerce City Council chamber, 5655 Jillson St., Commerce.
