Woman Admits Stabbing Daughter
A Poway mother accused of trying to stab her 6-year-old daughter to death pleaded guilty Wednesday to assault with a deadly weapon.
Antonia Garner, 42, who was to have had a preliminary hearing today, entered her plea before Municipal Judge John Thompson, who set March 25 for sentencing.
She could receive a maximum of eight years in state prison.
The girl was stabbed several times in the chest Jan. 22, and the mother then turned the weapon on herself. Deputies rushed them both to hospitals.
The girl is now living with her father and is expected to recover completely, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Dave Rubin.
Garner remains in County Jail at Las Colinas in Santee.
