Boy Sentenced to Camp for Blue Line Vandalism
A 16-year-old boy who broke windows and scrawled graffiti on the Metro Blue Line shortly after it began operation was sentenced Wednesday to a camp run by the county probation department.
The South Gate youth, whose name was not disclosed because of his age, will stay at the camp from three to nine months, attending school classes and performing chores, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Mario Coto-Lopez.
Downey Juvenile Commissioner Jerry Moore also ordered the youth to make restitution. He pleaded guilty last month to a felony vandalism charge.
A second South Gate teen-ager who also admitted the charge is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday. Coto-Lopez said that shortly after the Blue Line began operating last July, the boys broke windows and used markers and etching pens to scrawl graffiti on one of the cars.
