Walter Klien, 63, a pianist known for his interpretations of Mozart and Arnold Schoenberg. Born in the Austrian city of Graz, Klien studied with Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli and Paul Hindemith. Renowned for his renditions of Viennese classical music and the works of modern composers, Klien gave concerts in the United States, Canada, Japan and Great Britain. In a Vienna hospital over the weekend where he was being treated for cancer.
