Nation IN BRIEF : COLORADO : Aspin Hospitalized With Heart Ailment
Rep. Les Aspin (D-Wis.), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, was hospitalized in Denver with a heart condition triggered on a skiing trip to nearby Vail, Colo. The 52-year-old legislator was in serious but stable condition, a University Hospital spokesman said. Aspin was first hospitalized in Vail Monday, then moved to Denver. “(The doctor) said the congressman’s excessive physical activity at high altitude possibly placed greater demands on his system,” the hospital spokesman said. Aspin was expected to stay in the hospital for a few days. “The prognosis is good. They have every anticipation that he’ll do well,” the spokesman said, adding that the congressman was “in good spirits.”
