Football Coach Lins to Lead Crespi Track

Tim Lins, the football coach at Crespi High, will coach the Celts’ track and field program this spring, the school said Wednesday.

Lins will replace Jim Benkert, who left Crespi for a full-time teaching position at Westlake, where he has coached the football team for two years.

“That made it almost impossible for Jim to coach track here,” said Paul Muff, Crespi’s athletic director.

Benkert’s 1989 Crespi track team, spearheaded by sprinter-jumper Russell White, finished second in the Southern Section 2-A Division championships and was third in the 2-A meet in 1988.

Lins has served as an assistant track and football coach at Crespi since 1985 and succeeded Bill Redell as the head football coach in 1989.
