SOUTHERN SECTION GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : DIVISION III ROUNDUP
In other Division III-AA games:
Savanna 67, Sonora 16--Carrie Frederick had a triple double, scoring 22 points and adding 10 rebounds and 11 assists for host Savanna (20-5). Stacey Aliff scored 16 and Wendy Castro 10 for Savanna, which will meet Paso Robles, a 68-35 winner over Dos Pueblos, on Saturday.
El Dorado 71, Pomona 65--El Dorado held off a fourth-quarter charge to win at Pomona. Briana Yoshina scored 21 points, including two three-pointers, and Erin Vessey scored 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for El Dorado (10-13).
Laguna Hills 43, La Serna 34--Andrea Nelson had 12 point and Jenny Milo had 10 for visiting Laguna Hills (7-13), which led, 23-13, at the half.
Magnolia 61, Mira Costa 38--Joyce Pe’a had 21 points, nine rebounds and five assists for visiting Magnolia (14-7). Pe’a made 10 of 13 shots from the field. Joya Walach had 15 points and eight rebounds and Yolanda Hearvey had eight points and 15 rebounds.
Trabuco Hills 61, Western 51--Trabuco Hills (13-11) led by as many as 19 points. Leila Ryan scored 20 points, Holly Warnick 19 and Shelley Calhoun 11 for the Mustangs.
In Division III-A games:
Rosary 61, Azusa 30--Carolyn Chey scored 12 points and Marie Richardson scored 10 points, including three three-pointers, for host Rosary (12-7), which led, 15-0, at the end of the first quarter and substituted liberally the rest of the way.
Corona del Mar 2, Calabasses 0 (forfeit)--Calabasses (3-17) decided to not make the trip to Newport Beach, according to Corona del Mar Coach Garth Flint. Corona del Mar (12-12) will play at West Covina South Hills in the first round Saturday.
