Lara Carlsen of Corona del Mar High School, The Times’ Orange County player of the year in girls’ volleyball, leads the list of 10 Orange County volleyball players who signed with Division I schools Wednesday.

Carlsen, who is headed to USC, was one of two players from the Sea Kings’ State Division I championship team to sign with a Division I college. Middle blocker Tahlia Wagner signed with Loyola Marymount.

Carlsen, a 5-foot-10 middle blocker, committed to the Trojans last August and will be the third person in her family to attend USC.

Her mother, Anne, graduated from USC and went on to teach English. Her father, Gary, an oral surgeon, set a USC record in the discus and placed sixth in the event at the 1968 Olympics.

Wagner, who transferred from Rim of the World after her junior year, will play for former Woodbridge Coach Steve Stratos at Loyola.

Two Laguna Beach players signed with Division I schools--outside hitter Ashley Wacholder with Duke and setter Kealy Clarke with Washington.

La Habra teammates Missy Clements and Ana Kristich signed with Cal State Northridge. Clements, a 5-10 middle blocker, and Kristich, a 6-1 outside hitter, led La Habra to its second consecutive state Division II title in December.

In other signings, UCLA signed El Toro’s Michelle Mauney, a 6-3 middle blocker and the South Coast League’s most valuable player, and Estancia middle blocker Brandi Brooks will attend Hawaii.

Marina middle blocker Cristin Rossman signed with San Jose State, and Mater Dei middle blocker Kim Brown will go to San Diego State.

Sarah Telford of Connelly High said she plans to sign with Hofstra this weekend. Telford, a 6-foot outside hitter, played three years at Connelly before sitting out last season with a knee injury.

Corona del Mar’s Prentice Perkins, a 5-5 setter, is choosing between USC and Cal State Long Beach. Her brother, Jason, was a freshman starter last season on USC’s national championship team.

The Sea Kings’ Tracy Schriber and Margaret Weese will play for Golden West College next season, said Charlie Brande, their club coach. Junior college players do not sign letters of intent.

Two soccer players, midfielders Julie Harris of Los Alamitos and Shawn Viloria of El Toro, signed with UC Santa Barbara.

Villa Park football player Brian Pearsall has signed with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, said Linda Pearsall, his mother.

Pearsall, a 6-3, 235-pound lineman, was the defensive player of the year in the Century League last season. He was also named first-team All-Southern Section and second-team all-state.
