BRUSSELS — Top-seeded Boris Becker struggled past fellow-German Eric Jelen 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (7-5) today and moved into the quarterfinals of the Donnay Indoor Championship.
Seeded players Jakob Hlasek of Switzerland and Soviet Andrei Chesnokov also scored straight-set victories in the ATP event.
Hlasek, the No. 8 seed, swept past Mats Wilander 6-1, 7-5. Chesnokov, seeded sixth, beat Yugoslav Goran Prpic 6-4, 7-6 (7-2 ).
Michael Chang, Guy Forget and Marc Rosset moved into the quarterfinals earlier.
Becker will play Chang in Friday’s quarterfinal.
