THE SIDELINES : Rangers’ Nicholls Suspended
From Times Wire Services
MONTREAL — New York Rangers forward Bernie Nicholls was suspended for three games today for swinging his stick at Montreal Canadiens defenseman Jean-Jacques Daigneault during a game last weekend.
The fine was announced by league Executive Vice President Brian O’Neill two days after he gave Nicholls a hearing in Montreal.
Nicholls hit Daigneault on the bare hand with his stick after the Montreal player had dropped his gloves during an altercation Saturday. Daigneault had high-sticked Randy Moller of the Rangers, then chased after Nicholls.
