OXNARD, VENTURA : Officers’ Weapons Stolen From Cars
In separate incidents in two days, weapons and other equipment were stolen from two Ventura County law enforcement officers’ cars, authorities said.
On Wednesday, an undercover Ventura County sheriff’s detective had his shotgun, revolver, bulletproof vest, ammunition and badge stolen from his car while it was parked outside his north Oxnard home, Oxnard Police Sgt. Gene Thayer said.
Thayer declined to give the officer’s name.
On Tuesday, off-duty California Highway Patrol Capt. William Brown parked his unmarked CHP car behind the Doubletree Hotel in the 2000 block of East Harbor Boulevard in Ventura and hid the keys on top of a rear tire while he went for a jog, a Ventura police official said.
When he returned, he found the keys missing, as well as his shotgun, baton, identification and badge.
