John W. Crowe; Engineer, Professor
John W. Crowe, an electronics engineer who had taught classes at Pierce and Pasadena City colleges, has died in Pasadena. He was 67.
A longtime Woodland Hills resident, Crowe died Tuesday of a heart attack suffered while teaching class at Pasadena City College, said his daughter Gail Crowe.
Born in Los Angeles, Crowe graduated from Hamilton High School in Los Angeles in 1940. He served in the Navy from 1943-46 and earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering in 1949 from USC. He worked in electronics for Rockwell International’s Santa Susana Field Laboratory and was most recently at Dynatrol National Corp. in Burbank.
In the late 1970s, Crow began teaching electronics and technology classes at Pierce College and in 1984, he started teaching at Pasadena City College. He left Pierce last year, but continued at Pasadena City College. Crowe was a member of an amateur radio operators club called MARS, the American Radio Relay League Inc. and the Southern California Antique Radio Society. He also advised to a ham radio club called QSO.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Diane Crowe of Woodland Hills; son Dean Crowe of Palmdale; and daughter Gail Crowe of Reseda.
Funeral services are pending. Pierce Bros.-Praiswater Mortuary in Canoga Park is handling the arrangements.
