‘Last Round-Up’

I must respond to the comment of Phil Marsala, “Armageddon for the last roundup!” (letter, Feb. 2).

My father Billy Hill wrote the song, “The Last Round-Up,” that Marsala referred to. The line from the song is “I’m heading for the last roundup.” While the song refers to an event in the life of a cowboy, it also has implications in each of our lives. My father must be saddened to see his lyrics used in an attempt to foster support for a war, any war. He passed away in 1940 so I’m responding on his behalf. My earliest memories were of living in a home where people of many different beliefs, racial and cultural backgrounds and political ideologies felt secure and safe.

Mr. Marsala, use your own words. Don’t distort my father’s!
