COUNTYWIDE : Artworks Sought for Benefit Auction
A Ventura art gallery and a nonprofit agency that helps the poor are looking for paintings and other donated works of art for a summer auction to benefit the homeless.
The Palm Street Art Gallery in Ventura and the Ventura County Commission on Human Concerns hope to raise $10,000 at an art auction scheduled June 15, said Barbara Gaughen, a commission spokeswoman.
Owners of art will receive a percentage of the auction price, while artists submitting their work will donate the entire amount to the commission, Gaughen said.
All artwork should be sent to the gallery to be judged prior to the auction, she added.
The artworks’ subject matter need not address the homeless issue, although such pieces would be appropriate, Gaughen said.
“There are some artists who have beautifully depicted the men and women of the street,” she said.
Money raised will be used to fund services such as providing first and last month rent to the homeless, dental care and assistance with energy bills.
