Orion Reports Record Box Office Take: Financially troubled Orion Pictures Corp. said four of its films took in a total of $20.9 million at the box office during the extended Presidents’ Day weekend, to set a company record. “The Silence of the Lambs” opened with $13.8 million, while “Dances With Wolves” surged to $6.2 million for a total of $111.7 million after receiving 12 Academy Awards nominations. “Alice” had weekend ticket sales of $557,407, and “Mermaids” took in $405,859, Orion said. The heavily indebted studio has been trying to sell distribution rights to several future films to raise cash.
