Point Loma Nazarene was beaten by Westmont College, 76-69, after being tied at halftime, 39-39, in front of 1,200 at Golden Gymnasium. Mark Bulgin had a game-high 28 points but was one of just six players to score for the Crusaders (11-18). Noel Matthews, with 26, led four players in double figures for Westmont (17-9).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

San Diego State rolled to a 70-60 nonconference victory over Cal State Northridge in front of 249 at Peterson Gym. Kieishsha Garnes led the Aztecs (14-10) with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Melanie Usher added 15 and Carmelia Bloodsaw 14. CSUN fell to 10-16.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

San Diego State broke Hawaii’s nine-match winning streak while collecting its second win in two days with a 6-0 victory at SDSU. No. 1 Dorey Brandt defeated Casey Wikse, 6-2, 6-0, for the Aztecs (2-4). At No. 2, Nichole Storto defeated Karen Felicilda, 7-6 (7-3) 6-0. Hawaii is now 9-1.

BASEBALL

Brent Hansen pitched his second consecutive complete game as UCSD surprised San Diego State, 2-1, at Triton Field. It was only the second time in 19 meetings that the Tritons (2-5) had beaten the Aztecs (8-4). Hansen (2-1), a junior out of San Dieguito High, scattered seven hits and struck out only one. Sean Evans had an RBI single in the seventh to tie the game and Anthony Sanchez singled home Louie Diaz from second in the eighth for the game-winner.

Tony Moeder singled to left scoring Rob Dean from second base with one out in the 11th inning to lift USD to a 9-8 victory over visiting Cal Poly Pomona. It was the fourth consecutive win for the Toreros (6-5-1), who have won five games in the final inning. Chad Boyd tied the game with a two-out single in the ninth to force extra innings.

PLNC was limited to six hits in a 9-2 loss at home to Claremont-Mudd. Rob Easley hit two home runs for Claremont (2-2). Chris Gunnett (2-1) took the loss for the Crusaders, who fell to 8-3.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

No. 2 Long Beach State (14-1) made quick work of UCSD (4-7) in a 15-3, 15-11, 15-4 victory at Triton Gym. Justin Cox led the 49ers with 13 kills. Lamson Lam had 12 for the Tritons.

MEN’S TENNIS

SDSU and PacTel will co-sponsor a tennis match between Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi in the PacTel Cellular Challenge March 2. Proceeds will benefit the Aztec Athletic Foundation. The match will be held at 2 p.m. at the Rancho Bernardo Inn.
