Groups Join to Offer Chamber Concerts : Partners: Laguna, O.C. Philharmonic societies will team up, present concerts in Irvine.

The Laguna Beach Chamber Music Society and the Orange County Philharmonic Society will team up for the first time to present six chamber concerts at the Irvine Barclay Theatre, starting in the fall.

The series will begin with the high-powered Beaux Arts Trio (Oct. 10) and will continue with the Tokyo String Quartet (Oct. 29), the Cleveland Quartet (Jan. 16, 1992), the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet (March 16), the Juilliard String Quartet (April 2) and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (May 10). Repertory will be announced.

“The idea to collaborate was generated by people active in both organizations,” Ray Hendrickson, president of the Chamber Music Society, said Wednesday.

“We were faced with a relocation of our venue because of the remodeling of the Laguna Beach High School auditorium (where the society’s concerts traditionally have been held). We looked desperately around and were faced with going hither and yon into churches and school auditoriums. Everybody was excited about the idea about collaborating with the Philharmonic Society and moving into the Irvine Theatre.”

Erich Vollmer, executive director of the Philharmonic Society, said: “It’s been a longstanding desire on our part to expand our offerings and do more chamber music, particularly now that the Irvine Barclay Theatre is available.

“We probably would have been cautious about such a move as long as the Laguna Chamber Music Society offered the fine series that it does. So the opportunity to do something together had a great appeal to us.”

Vollmer said the two groups would split the costs of producing the series evenly. Subscription information will be mailed to current subscribers of both organizations early next month. Subscription tickets will go on sale to the general public early in April. Tickets to individual concerts will range from $10 to $20 and should be available before each program.
