Food Company to Hire 200 for Industry Plant
CITY OF INDUSTRY — Health-food producer Sunrider International Corp. will hire about 200 employees for its new manufacturing plant when the facility is fully in operation by the end of March, a company spokeswoman said.
The plant, which opened in November at 330 S. 6th Ave., will eventually replace the company’s Orem, Utah, facility in the manufacturing and packaging of herbal foods and teas, concentrated health drinks, skin-care products and cosmetics, company General Counsel Cynthia Muldrow said.
Sunrider has about 300 employees and yearly sales of about $200 million, company spokesman Jack Briggs said.
Sunrider opened the City of Industry facility to have easier access to suppliers and distributors on the Pacific Rim. It also has offices in Japan, Australia and Taiwan, Briggs said.
Muldrow said the new plant will use more efficient technology. “We’re doing more start-to-finish manufacturing,” she said. Before the move to California, she explained, “there was some preparation of the herbal food before it left Taiwan.” With the new plant, “we’re doing it all in the City of Industry.”
Muldrow said new employees to be hired range from “line personnel to managers.”
Among Sunrider’s products are Sunergy Herb Food, Vitalite and Sunsport products and Kandesn cosmetics.
