Another School to Get Air Conditioning
The Glendale school board unanimously awarded a contract Tuesday to install air conditioning in classrooms at Balboa Elementary School in preparation for year-round school.
The board previously awarded contracts for similar improvements at Columbus, Jefferson, Keppel, Mann and Marshall elementary schools in October. The improvements will cost the district about $1.2 million, district spokesman Vic Pallos said.
The delay in completing the contract for Balboa resulted when an incomplete bid description was sent to contractors by the district, Pallos said.
Installation of equipment at Balboa will begin immediately. Improvements at Marshall are nearing completion and all six projects will be finished by the July 1 start of year-round classes, Pallos said.
The Balboa contract was awarded to Air Conditioning Enterprises of Van Nuys, which was also awarded the contract for Marshall. Keystone Air Conditioning Co. of Pacific Palisades was awarded the contract for Columbus, while Circulating Air, Inc. of North Hollywood was awarded the contracts for Jefferson, Keppel and Mann.
Pallos said the California Department of Education has assured the board that 80 percent of the air conditioning cost will be reimbursed to the district.
