Compton : City Benefits Extended for Reservists Activated for War
Reservists who were called to active duty for Operation Desert Storm and are full-time employees for the city of Compton will continue to get partial city paychecks and their benefits for up to 12 months.
In a gesture of support for the troops, the City Council unanimously voted Tuesday to extend the city’s military leave provisions so that reservists--combining their military and their city paychecks--will have incomes equal to what they earned before being called to active duty. Compton Mayor Pro Tem Maxcy D. Filer said National Guard members are included in the leave provision.
Stone Jackson, a Compton police homicide detective and a Marine Corps reservist, was called to active duty in the Middle East on Jan. 1. This month, Officer Robert Page, also a Marine reservist, was called to active duty.
City Clerk Charles Davis suggested that the names and pictures of Compton residents serving in the Persian Gulf be displayed at City Hall.
