Long Beach : Steven Dillenbeck Becomes Executive Director of Port
Steven R. Dillenbeck has been named executive director of the Port of Long Beach, filling a position that has been vacant for nearly two years.
He, along with the port’s other managing directors, assumed the executive director’s duties on a rotating basis after Joseph Prevratil left the position to oversee the $80-million expansion of the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center in 1989.
Dillenbeck joined the Long Beach port in 1987, coming from the neighboring Port of Los Angeles, to work as director of properties. In 1988, he became managing director of the port’s Commerce and Development Bureau.
He was appointed to the top executive post Tuesday by the Board of Harbor Commissioners.
“The board has been very impressed with the qualities of each of the managing directors,” board President Robert Langslet said. “However, with more than $1 billion in properties under lease and an extensive land acquisition program under way, it was felt that Dillenbeck’s background and experience particularly qualified him for the position.”
