John G. Price; Sheriff’s Deputy

John G. Price, a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy, has died in Woodland Hills. He was 35.

Price died Monday at his residence, said his sister, Jeanne Dunlap.

Born in Los Angeles, he graduated from Monroe High School in Sepulveda in 1972 and studied administration of justice at Valley College, Cal State Northridge and Cal State Los Angeles. He joined the Sheriff’s Department in 1978 and worked as a deputy at the Los Angeles County Central Jail, a patrol officer in La Crescenta and as a jailer at the department’s Malibu station. Most recently, he worked as a bailiff at the Van Nuys Municipal Courthouse. He also enjoyed golfing and marathon running.

He is survived by his parents, Gloria and Arthur Price of Sepulveda; sisters Teri Mitchell of Northridge and Jeanne Dunlap of Playa del Rey; and nephews Jason and Travis Mitchell of Northridge.

Visitation is planned for 5 to 9 p.m. tonight at Utter-McKinley Mortuary, 11071 Columbus Ave. in Mission Hills. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mel’s Catholic Church, 20870 Ventura Blvd., Woodland Hills, where Price attended church.

Burial will follow at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills.

Contributions can be made in Price’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
