THE GULF WAR: The Home Front : Calling Psychologists
They don’t all support the war, but 8,000 psychologists who normally charge an average of $80 per hour are VOLUNTEERING TO HELP THEIR COMMUNITIES cope with the Gulf conflict. The American Psychological Assn. said it is “overwhelmed” that nearly one in five clinical psychologists contacted agreed to participate in its free program to counsel schools, families, community groups and others about the war. The program is titled “Operation Community Assistance Links,” or CALL. Four toll-free telephone lines are being installed, with a computer program that will match callers with nearby psychologists.
