THE GULF WAR: The Home Front : No Tax Break
The recent tax break for troops in the Gulf doesn’t apply to the HUNDREDS OF CIVILIANS aboard Navy support ships who provide food and ammunition to the warships. Since they operate in “safe havens” outside the range of Iraqi missiles, they’re not entitled to the same break as those in the combat zone. (Enlisted personnel’s income is tax-free, and officers pay taxes on monthly income above $500.)
