WOMEN’S BASKETBALL : Georgia Clinches a Share of SEC Title
ATHENS, Ga. — Stacey Ford scored 20 points as No. 3 Georgia won its 15th game in a row and secured a share of the Southeastern Conference women’s championship with an 83-47 victory over Alabama on Wednesday night at Georgia.
The Lady Bulldogs (23-2 overall, 8-0 in the SEC) broke the game open early with an 11-0 run after Alabama’s Laura Vaughn scored the game’s first points.
Georgia built its lead to 42-23 by halftime and the margin grew to 72-35 with 9:48 remaining.
Tammye Jenkins and Deborah Reese each added 15 points and Lady Hardman scored 14 for Georgia.
Vaughn and Linda Burgess each scored 11 points to lead Alabama (14-11, 2-6).
