Seeded last--and quite upset about it--El Cajon Valley had to face top-seeded Sweetwater in the first round of the Division II boys’ soccer playoffs.

So El Cajon Valley upset the Red Devils, 3-1, at Sweetwater.

Mike Duhaney scored two goals, his 23rd and 24th of the year, and Rony Ramirez had the other to lead the Braves (14-5-3) over Sweetwater (19-3-4).

“I was kind of upset at the seeding meeting about having to play the No. 1 seed,” said El Cajon Coach Jeff Duhaney, Mike’s father. “Our record was pretty good. I didn’t think we should have had to play them in the first round.”

Mike Duhaney, a junior forward, scored with one minute left in the first half to give El Cajon a 1-0 lead. Jack Agundes got the assist.

“He got creamed on the play but he managed to volley it in,” Jeff Duhaney said.

El Cajon then went up 2-0 14 minutes into the second half, Ramirez scoring off a pass from Troy Wallace. Sweetwater’s David Rodriguez scored one minute later, but Duhaney iced the game in the 67th minute with penalty-kick goal. Other Division II games:
