ANACAPA ISLAND : Search Called Off for Missing Camper
A search for a missing 25-year-old camper on Anacapa Island was called off Thursday after a daylong canvass of the area, said a spokeswoman for Channel Islands National Park.
Kent Sayre of Santa Barbara apparently disappeared from the island Wednesday evening, hours after arriving by commercial boat, spokeswoman Carol Spears said.
Rangers searched Anacapa Island by foot Wednesday night, then by air and boat on Thursday but failed to spot Sayre, Spears said. She said the only way for visitors to leave the island is by boat. Rangers, however, have no evidence that Sayre was able to do so.
Channel Islands National Park rangers will remain on the lookout for Sayre.
