L.A. Gear Shuts Unit: Sneaker maker L.A. Gear said it scrapped its inside sales department, eliminating about 25 positions. The company said most of the employees were dismissed, but a few were reassigned into other jobs. The department made sales calls to stores that carry L.A. Gear sneakers to back up sales personnel located across the country. The company said, however, that the department brought in too little extra business to justify keeping it in operation.
