THE GULF WAR: The Home Front : Books
Americans are reading about the Persian Gulf region. Among the paperbacks leading some bestseller lists:
“From Beirut to Jerusalem” by Thomas L. Friedman. Anchor-Doubleday has issued 515,000 copies in nine printings, including 280,000 last month.
“Saddam Hussein and the Crisis in the Gulf,” by Judith Miller and Laurie Mylroie. The “instant book” was written in three weeks. About 825,000 copies have been printed.
“Not Without My Daughter” by Betty Mahmoody with William Hoffer, the story of an American woman held captive in Iran by a hostile husband. First published in paperback in 1988; 400,000 copies sold by last year.
