Palestinian Youth Shot to Death in West Bank
JERUSALEM — A 14-year-old Palestinian youth was fatally shot after troops opened fire during a stone-throwing incident in the occupied West Bank, the Israeli military said Saturday.
An army statement said that troops entered the village of Yatta on Friday. “Stones were thrown at a military force in Yatta, and the unit opened fire. Afterwards, the body of a 14-year-old youth was brought to the Alia Hospital,” the statement said. “The connection between the two incidents is being examined.”
Israel Radio identified the teen-ager as Izat Bader Harush.
Israel had kept most of the 1.7 million Arabs in the occupied lands under curfew since the Persian Gulf War began on Jan. 17.
Two weeks ago it began to loosen the curfew during daylight hours.
The youth’s death brought to 805 the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli soldiers or civilians since the Arab uprising began 38 months ago. In addition, 57 Israelis have also died in the violence.
