60 Irvine-Based Reservists Are Called to Duty

Sixty members of an Irvine-based Army reserve unit have been called to active duty to provide security for ammunition shipments from North Carolina bound for the Persian Gulf.

The reservists of the 6632nd Port Security Detachment are expected to leave in the next few days for the Sunny Point Military Ocean Terminal in Southport, N.C., where they will remain for the length of their service, Army officials in North Carolina said.

Army officials said the reservists will provide security at the terminal. The detachment is part of the 63rd Army Reserve Command in Los Alamitos.
