PRIME TOPIC: The talk in the fast-food joints and coffee shops Wednesday was of war. . . . In such places as the Donut Factory in Costa Mesa, folks like Warner Johnson, 79, talked about the fighting. The retired baker said, “I think we did the right thing” in Iraq. . . . Saddam Hussein is a “self-grandiose madman,” and President Bush “did the only thing he could do.” Johnson remembered the last conflict all too clearly: “Vietnam, from the outset, was very unpopular and never really a declared war.” This time, he said, support at home let Bush act quickly and decisively.
