HUNTINGTON BEACH — The maker of Simple Green, a biodegradable cleaning liquid, said Tuesday that it has signed a marketing deal in which it will donate a percentage of sales to the International Red Cross in exchange for displaying the symbol of the Geneva-based relief agency on its packaging.
Sunshine Makers Inc. of Huntington Beach will donate unspecified proceeds from each sale of its Simple Green cleanser to the League of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Geneva, parent organization of the American Red Cross and the other Red Cross organizations around the world.
Doug O’Connor, executive vice president of Sunshine Makers, declined to say how much the company will give to the Red Cross per sale. But he said the donations will amount to “several hundred thousand dollars” over the five-year agreement.
The agreement allowing Simple Green to use the Red Cross symbol does not constitute an endorsement, he said.
But the company’s marketing campaign, dubbed “Help the Red Cross Help Others,” is expected to increase sales from consumers who want to donate money to the Red Cross through their purchases, he added.
