A Los Angeles police officer shot and killed a suspected burglar on a North Hollywood street Tuesday morning after the man pointed a gun at him, police said.

David McMahon, a 38-year-old patrol officer and 17-year police veteran, fired six shots at the unidentified man, hitting him in the back and left thigh, said Lt. William Hall, head of the LAPD’s officer involved shooting squad. Hall said the shooting appeared to be justified.

“There’s nothing we see that’s out of line at this point,” Hall said. He said McMahon will undergo a psychological review before a decision is made on whether to return him immediately to patrol duty.
