Safe Cinema: Video cameras sweep the parking lot and patrons must pass through metal detectors at a suburban movie complex in Valley Stream, N.Y., where a moviegoer was shot and killed during a showing of “The Godfather Part III” in December. In an effort to lure back customers, the Sunrise Multiplex in the Long Island town ran ads in local newspapers last week touting the new security measures. Three dozen closed-circuit video cameras monitor the interior of the 14-screen complex and its parking lot, and the owners have hired extra security guards.
