Jailed War Protesters
A word of thanks for printing Jeff Dietrich’s inspiring “Act of Contrition for the Sin of War: As America celebrates, the protest continues, through prayer and fasting in jail” (Column Left, Commentary, March 21).
What a welcome, soul-searching antidote to the national orgy of self-congratulatory celebration of technological violence in the Gulf War. Surely the reality of more than 100,000 dead Iraqis has not yet entered our collective conscience.
To Jeff and his friends in jail--thank you for reminding us of who we are and what we could become. Your actions and testimony are truly redemptive.
