CAMARILLO : Weekend Book Sale Will Benefit Library

More than 10,000 books will be offered for sale by the Friends of the Camarillo Library on Saturday and Sunday to raise money to expand the library building and to purchase new books and materials.

Last October, the volunteer organization raised more than $15,000 at its fall book sale.

To date, book sales have brought $45,000 into the group’s library expansion fund.

Ventura County has estimated the expansion will cost $8 million. Ralph Lovell, president of the Friends of the Camarillo Library, said he expects money for the library expansion to come from a variety of sources.

Lovell said a portion of the proceeds from this weekend’s book sale will go toward the purchase of adult and children’s books, in addition to financing special children’s programs.

The books for sale are donated to the Friends of the Camarillo Library by residents of the community, in addition to library discards.

Some first editions have been donated and will be sold at a silent auction Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon.

At least 20 first editions have been identified, said Lenora Blaise, a library volunteer.

“One of the first-edition books is an encyclopedia from the turn of the century, with an article by Charles Darwin,” Blaise said.

The two-day sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. under a white tent in the Ventura County National Bank parking lot at Los Posas Plaza in Camarillo.
